In the earlier part of this year, I had the pleasure of working on my first comic project.
The comic strips also doubled as ads for Virgin Valley Vapor, a Vape shop in Mesquite, Nevada.
Virgin Valley Vapor is a Vape shop owned and operated by Joseph Daut, the vocalist of hardcore punk band The Dehumanizers. I did some album artwork for The Dehumanizers a few years ago, so when Joe contacted me about this project, I was ecstatic.
I’ve always wanted to get into making comics, and have a ton of ideas for comics, but never knew where to start.
The strips were written by Joe, and illustrated by me. For the most part Joe handed me the ideas, and let me do what I wanted with it. Like I said, I had never done a comic project of any kind before, so there was definitely a learning curve. Now I know that these strips aren’t perfect, but I had a lot of fun doing them, and that’s when I realized, that making comics is what I really want to be doing.
So starting in 2016, I’ll be working on story telling, through comics and children’s books. As of now I have five different comics planned. One for children, and the other four are a little more mature. I’m going to work on the first two, simultaneously, and release them as webcomics, so that I can get feedback on the stories as they progress, and then eventually put them into print. As I start releasing them, I will post links to them here on my site.
So as the partial inspiration to realizing what I want to be doing, I decided to share the six comic strips that started this path. Now keep in mind, I don’t smoke, or vape, and I don’t judge people that do, so remember that this was something I got paid for (my first and only paying illustration job) and had a lot of fun doing it.
